The dreaded news fell on 8 January. After Younès Belhanda,
Osama Tannane and more recently Noureddine Amrabat, it is the turn of Sofiane
Boufal to declare forfeit for AFCON 2017 in Gabon (14 January-5 February). The
offensive midfielder, touched with his English club of Southampton a
few days
ago, was part of the group chosen by Hervé Renard for the preparation of the
Lions of the Atlas. But his wound, the nature of which has not yet been
revealed, could not heal. "Sofiane Boufal left the Lions gathering in
Al-Ain (United Arab Emirates) this morning after confirming his injury and his
inability to compete in the African Cup of Nations," said the statement
issued by the Moroccan Football Federation, which will soon announce the name
of the one who will replace the former Lille striker.
